Bean plant progress report

Just had to pop in with another pic of the bean plant.

Things I cannot believe my eyes about:

how fast these beans are growing

how slender and delicate the stalks are that are holding up those heavy beans

how the plant still hasn't died in my care

And further to that last point - is it bad and/or jinxy that I'm beginning to wonder how the beans will taste?

I know of nothing that suggests that wondering about the taste of the beans will in any way jinx the plant! But a word of caution--that plant does look a little leggy, as if it might not be getting enough light (that may be part of why it's growing quite so fast and looking so long and thin). Possibly a nice grow lamp right up close to that baby would make it a bit stronger.

Aha! that would explain a lot. Sadly this window is as good as it gets at my house (really, it's quite amazing it's still alive at all; I do admire its fortitude) but maybe I could prune it down a bit so it conserves its energy? Post-harvest, natch ;^)

How you're resisting just picking and eating it is beyond me (fresh, young, raw, green beans! yum!)

I don't know how well that'll work, but it might be worth a shot (though, to be honest, I'd worry about killing an already not terribly strong plant that way). And yes, of course, snack away on that bean--it won't be young and green forever (and the two or three dried beans it would yield later aren't much use as soup, though you could plant them).

But a full spectrum grow-light bulb and a lamp to put it in (even one of those clip-on work lamps) should be widely available, and not too spendy.
